First Nations partnerships

Working together for strong readers

We partner with bands, education authorities and Jordan’s Principle coordinators to support students with reading, in ways that respect families, communities and culture.

Partnership first

We start by listening

Every community is different. We begin by listening to families, caregivers, Elders and education staff about what students need, then shape lessons around that.

Online delivery brings specialist instruction to rural and remote communities without a local reading specialist.

  • Flexible scheduling around family and community life
  • Room for caregivers and Elders in lessons
  • Culturally relevant reading material
  • Plain-language reports

Based in Prince George

We are based in Prince George and work online with communities across BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

How it works

Four steps for every student

Step 1

Referral

A family, teacher or program contacts us. We confirm fit and funding before anything starts.

Step 2

Diagnostic

A 1-hour assessment of six reading skills sets the baseline, with a plain-language written report.

Step 3

Instruction

Weekly 50-minute 1-on-1 lessons with a certified reading specialist, each one published to the portal.

Step 4

Reassessment

We reassess on the same measures at Activity 70 and Activity 140 and report the growth.

Reports and privacy

Documentation you can use

Reports are written in plain language and print cleanly for school and team meetings.

A student’s file is seen only by the tutors and caregivers working with that student. Teachers and program staff see it only when the family or program grants access.

Session records

What was read, tutor notes and skills reached, for every lesson.

Measured progress

Reading level, words correct per minute and skills, from the records.

Assessment schedule

Baseline, Activity 70 and Activity 140.

Invoicing

Clear invoices and documentation for approvals and renewals.

Funding routes

How lessons are usually funded

Jordan’s Principle

Requests are made per child. We provide the documentation needed and begin lessons only once approval is in place.

Band education budgets

Special education budgets can contract reading instruction as a remedial reading service.
