1-on-1 reading tutoring
1-on-1 reading lessons built around your reader
Weekly 50-minute lessons with a specialist reading tutor, online anywhere in Canada and the US or in person in Prince George. You can listen in to any lesson and see every session afterwards.
Why it works
We start with the sounds your child already speaks
Most reading programs start with letters and rules, then ask a child to turn print back into sound. We do the opposite. Our approach is called speech to print: we start with the sounds of spoken English and show your child how each one is written.
That one change matters. There are no spelling rules or syllable rules to memorize, so a child who struggles with memory is not carrying a heavy load into every lesson. Reading, spelling and writing are taught together, so each skill supports the others instead of competing for practice time.
Every lesson builds on the last. Your child keeps moving forward while earlier skills are reviewed, instead of waiting to master one step before they are allowed to try the next.

Inside a lesson
What happens in 50 minutes
Every lesson follows the same reliable sequence, so your child knows what to expect and every minute counts.
Sounds
A warm-up with the sounds of speech and the different ways each sound can be spelled.
Words
Building, spelling and reading words that use the day’s sound patterns, with instant feedback.
Reading
Reading real text with support, matched to your child’s level and interests.
Writing
Writing sentences and practising handwriting so the learning sticks.
Who it is for
For readers who need more than the classroom can give
We teach children from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adults. Many of our students have dyslexia, ADHD, autism or apraxia. Many have already tried tutoring, reading apps or Orton-Gillingham, and their families are looking for progress they can actually see.
You do not need a diagnosis to start. A reading diagnostic assessment shows exactly where your child is and what to teach first.
Confidence first
Parents often tell us the first change they notice is not a test score. It is a child who stops saying “I can’t” and starts trying long words.
Online lessons
Hands-on lessons, even on a screen
Online is how most of our families learn, and it works for students who find it hard to focus in a busy room. Lessons run on Koala, a platform built for tutoring, with Zoom as a backup. A document camera lets your tutor see your child’s writing as it happens, so mistakes are caught in the moment, not weeks later.
Online lessons also bring a specialist to families in small towns and rural and remote communities that have no reading specialist nearby.
The Online Startup Kit has the equipment your child needs from day one for $350 CAD. You provide a reliable internet connection, a computer, mouse, keyboard and webcam.
In person in Prince George

You always know what happened in a lesson
Parents are welcome to listen in to any lesson. Afterwards, the session is published to your private Family Portal: what your child read, the tutor’s notes, skills reached, homework and photos of their work.
Progress is measured, not guessed. We set a baseline with the diagnostic, then reassess at Activity 70 and Activity 140 on the same measures.
