Does this sound like your child?

Signs of dyslexia parents often notice

Dyslexia is a difference in how the brain connects the sounds of speech to written letters. It has nothing to do with intelligence or effort. Many dyslexic children are bright, verbal and creative, which makes their struggle with print all the more confusing for them and for you.

  • Reading is slow and effortful, even for familiar words
  • Spelling changes from day to day
  • Guessing at words from the first letter or the pictures
  • Avoiding reading aloud
  • Great ideas that never make it onto paper
  • Tired, frustrated or anxious after reading

You are not alone

Parents often tell us they were told to wait and see. You do not need a label to get help, and it is never too late to start.

Why it works

We teach the link dyslexia makes hard

Because dyslexia affects the link between sounds and letters, that link is exactly what we teach. Our approach is called speech to print. We start with the sounds your child already says, then show them every way each sound can be written.

There are no spelling rules or syllable rules to memorize. Many dyslexic students struggle with working memory, so a program built on dozens of rules and exceptions can feel like carrying a heavy backpack up a hill. We use a small set of patterns instead, and every lesson reinforces them.

Reading, spelling and writing are taught together in each 50-minute lesson. When your child spells a word, they are practising reading it too, and the other way around.

  • No rules to memorize, just patterns that make sense
  • Reading, spelling and writing in every lesson
  • Real books early, matched to their level
  • Every lesson builds on the last

How we start

From first call to first lesson

Step 1

Free discovery call

Tell us about your child and what you have tried. We will be honest about whether we are the right fit.

Step 2

Reading diagnostic

A 1-hour assessment of six skills, with a written report that shows exactly what to teach.

Step 3

Weekly lessons

A standing 50-minute 1-on-1 lesson with the same tutor each week.

Step 4

Reassessment

We measure again at Activity 70 and Activity 140 on the same measures.

See the progress

Every lesson, published to your Family Portal

You will never wonder what happened in a lesson. You can listen in to any session, and afterwards you can see what your child read, the tutor’s notes, skills reached and photos of their work.

Reading level, words correct per minute and skills reached are calculated from the session records. If your child has a teacher or a funding program, you can give them access too.

Tried Orton-Gillingham or Barton?

If OG helped but progress stalled

Many of our dyslexic students come to us after Orton-Gillingham or Barton. Those programs build real foundations, and nothing your child learned is wasted. Speech to print keeps the explicit, step-by-step teaching and drops the rules and long stretches of controlled readers.

FAQ

Dyslexia tutoring questions

No. Many families start before or without a formal diagnosis. Our reading diagnostic shows exactly which skills to teach, but it is an educational assessment, not a medical or psychoeducational diagnosis.

No. It shares Orton-Gillingham’s explicit, systematic, multisensory foundations, but it starts from speech rather than letters and uses patterns instead of rules.

Most students work with us for 1 to 2 years. We measure progress at the start, middle and end of the program so you can see the growth.

Once a week, in a standing 50-minute time slot. Consistency is one of the biggest drivers of progress.

Yes. A document camera lets your tutor see your child’s writing in real time, and many children focus better at home. Most of our families choose online.

Kindergarten to Grade 12, and adults.

Lessons are $85 to $100 CAD depending on your plan, and the diagnostic is $299 CAD. Online school, home education and First Nations funding can often help.
